Adopt Me Beginner Guide to Bucks, Pets and Neons

In Adopt Me, you care for a pet, which earns Bucks and ages the pet up. Bucks buy more eggs, and four fully grown copies of a pet can become a Neon. Almost everything comes back to one thing: completing your pet's needs.
Adopt Me is made by Uplift Games, whose official site has news and support links.
The numbers below come from the community Adopt Me wiki, using its 2026 versions where we could. Updates change things, so trust the game if it shows something different.
Your first session
- Hatch your free Starter Egg. New players receive one, and it hatches into a Cat or Dog.
- Watch for need icons on your pet, then complete them.
- Claim your Daily Reward whenever you log in.
- Save your Bucks for your first real egg.
- Decorate later. Pets give you more long-term value than furniture does at the start.
How to earn Bucks
Needs, which the wiki calls ailments, are your main income. Each one pays a set amount, and the same tasks also age your pet.
| Need | Bucks | How to complete it |
|---|---|---|
| Sleepy | 10 | Use a pet bed or crib |
| Hungry | 12 | Give food |
| Thirsty | 12 | Give a drink |
| Catch | 12 | Use a throw toy |
| Walk | 12 | Walk around with your pet |
| Ride | 12 | Ride the pet or use a vehicle or stroller |
| Potty | 12 | Use a fire hydrant, toilet or litter box |
| Pet Me | 12 | Stroke the pet in the needs menu |
| Dirty | 15 | Use a shower or bathtub |
| Camping | 16 | Go to the Campsite |
| Sick | 16 | Use a Healing Apple, Doctor Heart or the Hospital bench |
| Bored | 20 | Visit the Playground or use a house piano |
| School | 20 | Go to the School |
| Beach Party | 20 | Go to the Beach Party |
| Salon | 20 | Go to the Salon |
| Pizza Party | 20 | Go to the Pizza Shop |
Know the cap. You can earn up to 300 Bucks from this type of play each in-game day, or 500 with a Pet Handler Pro Certificate. During double weekends, those limits double, and pets age twice as fast. These weekends are a great time to play.
Other ways to earn:
- Daily Reward: 25 Bucks on day 1, then 50, 100, and 200 on day 4, with a gift on day 5. The streak restarts after that.
- Jobs: work at the Salon, Pizza Shop, School or Hospital for up to 50 Bucks per in-game day.
- Task Board: complete listed tasks for more Bucks.
- Pet Pen toy box: gives bonus XP and Bucks.
- Fireflies: talk to Burt at the campsite, then catch fireflies for XP and Bucks.
- Stands: a Lemonade or Cotton Candy Stand costs 50 Bucks and lets you sell to other players.
- Money Tree: a house item that costs 1,450 Bucks and makes up to 100 Bucks per real day. Buy this later, not first.
Which egg to buy
Eggs are bought with Bucks and hatch once you complete enough tasks with them.
| Egg | Bucks | Common | Uncommon | Rare | Ultra-Rare | Legendary |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Cracked Egg | 350 | 45% | 33% | 14.5% | 6% | 1.5% |
| Pet Egg | 600 | 20% | 35% | 27% | 15% | 3% |
| Royal Egg | 1,450 | 0% | 25% | 37% | 30% | 8% |
The Royal Egg has the best odds, but even it gives a Legendary only 8% of the time. Do not spend all your Bucks chasing one. Limited-time Gumball Machine eggs leave the game after a few months, and then you can only get them through trading.
Aging your pet
Pets grow through six stages: Newborn, Junior, Pre-Teen, Teen, Post-Teen and Full Grown. Each stage teaches a new trick. Higher-rarity pets need more tasks to grow, so a Common is much faster to raise than a Legendary. A Common needs only 3 tasks to go from Newborn to Junior.
Two tools speed this up:
- Pet Pen: this area at your house ages pets while you play and while you are offline. Visit after each completed level to keep them growing.
- Age-Up Potions: each one gives a pet 30 tasks of progress. They cannot be used on eggs or fully grown pets. Full Grown pets earn Friendship Levels every 30 tasks, and each level gives you a potion. Keep caring for your Full Grown pets, then use the potions on younger pets.
A smart habit is to keep a few pets in the Pet Pen while you actively raise another one.
Making a Neon
To make a Neon pet, you need four Full Grown pets of the same species.
- Go to the Neon Cave under the main bridge.
- Put each pet on one of the four glowing circles.
- They merge into one glowing Neon pet.
If one of the four can fly or be ridden, the Neon keeps that ability. A Neon pet ages through its own stages: Reborn, Twinkle, Sparkle, Flare, Sunshine and Luminous.
Four Luminous Neons of the same species make a Mega Neon, using the same cave. That is 16 pets in total, so treat it as a long-term goal.
Start your first Neon with a Common or Uncommon pet, since they grow fast. A few pets cannot be made Neon, including the Pet Rock, Scoob, Pumpkin and Burtaur.
Trading safely
Trading lets you swap pets and items with other players. Open a trade by selecting a player and choosing Trade. Both people must accept after a short countdown. Older wiki information says you need a Trade License, earned by passing a test, to trade ultra-rare and legendary items.
Trading a pet resets its friendship levels.
Follow these rules:
- Read the whole trade window before you accept. Items can change right up to the countdown.
- Pay attention if the game warns you that a trade looks unfair.
- Never hand over a pet first and expect payment later. Only trust what is in the trade window.
- Do not trade in-game pets for real money or Robux outside the game, and do not use outside sites. Scams are common and you get no protection.
- Ignore anyone who asks for your password or offers "free pets" through a link.
Common beginner mistakes
- Buying furniture first. A big house can wait. Eggs and pets build your collection.
- Ignoring needs. Every need completed gives both Bucks and pet growth.
- Skipping daily logins. The reward climbs quickly over the first four days.
- Rushing into trades. Learn what your pets are worth before big deals.
