Doors Beginner Survival Guide

The core rule of Doors is to listen and react. Almost every monster gives a warning, and each one has one correct answer. Hide from Rush, look at Screech, look away from Eyes, and run during Seek.
Most details below come from one fan guide that summarizes the DOORS Wiki, plus older 2022 articles. The game updates often, so trust what you see in your run.
The official game page warns of loud sounds and flashing lights. It also recommends headphones, which help because so many warnings are sounds.
Quick reference
| Monster | Warning | What to do | Damage |
|---|---|---|---|
| Rush | Flickering lights, a rumble that rises to a screech | Hide in a closet or get out of its line of sight | 125 |

| Screech | Quiet static, then a whispered "psst" | Turn and look straight at it | 40 |
| Eyes | Spawn sound, purple or blue light | Look away or down, open the next door | 3 to 10 per tick |
| Halt | Dark hallway, static, "TURN AROUND" on screen | Walk backwards and leave the room | 60 |
| Dupe | Doors with wrong room numbers | Pick the real door | 40 |
| Hide | Red pulses, "Get Out" on screen | Leave your closet | 40 |
| Seek | Eyes on the walls, flickering lights | Run and never stop or hide | Instant death |
| Figure | Loud footsteps, growling | Crouch, stay quiet | Instant death |
Before your first run
- Join the LSPLASH group. The official game page says this gives you a free Revive.
- Learn from your deaths. The developers themselves suggest treating each death as a lesson.
Rush and Ambush
Rush is the first monster most players meet. Flickering lights can mean Rush, but they do not always. Wait until you hear the rumble climb into a screech, then hide. If you hide too soon, you risk running out of time and getting pushed out by Hide. If there is no closet nearby, get out of its line of sight behind furniture or into a side room, since Rush only hurts you when it can see you directly.
Ambush comes back. It charges past, turns around and passes again, several times. One older guide says up to six times. Stay hidden while it charges, step out when it turns away, and be ready to go straight back in.
Hide
Hide is what punishes you for staying in a closet too long. After about 12 seconds your screen pulses red, "Get Out" flashes, and outside sounds go muffled. If you ignore that, you are pushed out for 40 damage, and you cannot hide again for around 10 seconds. So only get in a closet when you need one.
Screech, Eyes and Halt
Screech shows up in dark rooms. When you hear the "psst", turn around and look at it. It spawns behind you, so check the ceiling, eye level and the floor. Facing it makes it scream and leave. Carrying a light lowers its spawn chance but does not stop it.
Eyes does the opposite. When you hear the spawn sound and see the purple light, look down or away, and walk to the next door. Opening that door makes Eyes disappear. The closer it is to the middle of your screen, the more it hurts.
Halt appears in a dark hallway. Halt appears behind you, then teleports ahead and flashes "TURN AROUND". You do not actually need to spin around, as walking backwards also works and is faster. Stay away from it, and leave the room as soon as you can, since it disappears when you exit.
Dupe
Dupe hides behind fake doors in rooms with more than one exit. Before you pick a door:
- Check the room number on the door plaques. The number should follow on from the last door you opened.
- If two doors have the same number, neither is correct.
- Listen. Sounds like rain, fire or clocks only play behind real doors.
- Do not touch the lock on a door you think is fake.
The numbers can scramble after a delay, so do not stand around for too long.
Seek
Seek is the big chase. Watch for many eyes on the walls and paintings that read "This isn't a painting". An older guide places Seek chases around rooms 30 to 45 and 80 to 95, but check for the warning signs instead of counting on those ranges.
During the chase:
- Keep moving. You are faster than Seek.
- Do not hide. Seek kills players in closets.
- Follow the glowing blue sparkles that mark the correct path.
- Crouch under obstacles and stay clear of the black arms in the long hallway, because they kill you if they grab you.
Figure at Door 50 and Door 100
Figure guards the Library at Door 50 and the Electrical Room at Door 100. It is blind and hunts by sound, and touching it is instant death.
- Crouch whenever it is close. Even crouching, you can be heard if you are right next to it.
- Do not open drawers near it, because noise brings it over.
- Do not use noisy items near it, such as the Shakelight, Glowsticks, Laser Pointer or Alarm Clock.
- If you are in a closet and it comes to check, a heart appears on screen. Press Q and E (or tap the sides on mobile) as the two halves overlap. Win this and you are safely ejected.
- Never leave the closet during that check, since that kills you instantly.
- Vitamins are the best way to outrun it if it starts charging you.
Items and looting
Do not get greedy with drawers. Timothy can jump out of them. He does 5 damage in a normal run and cannot kill you on his own, and the fan guide puts the odds at about 1 in 200 per container.
Save the Crucifix for real emergencies. It banishes Rush, Ambush and Halt, but it only slows Seek and stuns Figure. Use a light in dark rooms, and keep Vitamins for chases.
Other floors and events
Door 100 is the end of the Hotel. The Mines and Outdoors have their own rules, so learn the Hotel first. The game page currently promotes a Halloween event called The Estate, part of The Hollow, which may not follow these rules.
