Dress to Impress How to Score Higher on Any Theme

October 30, 2026 · 6 min read

On this page

Your score comes from strangers who see your look for a few seconds. So make the theme obvious before you make it fancy. Use one clear idea, two or three colors, one standout piece and matching hair and makeup. A plain outfit that answers the theme usually beats a beautiful outfit that could fit anything.

There is no scoring robot. As RBLX Guide's fan summary of the wiki puts it, nobody checks your outfit against a rulebook. Voting is done by other players, so everything below is advice on human behavior and is opinion, not a game rule. The Roblox page only says to vote and pose on the runway. Check the official group for news.

Rules that shape your plan

These come from wiki-based and BlueStacks guides, which agree with each other.

Rule Value
Dressing time 360 seconds in normal rounds
Item cap 18, or 24 with a paid pass
Votes 1 to 5 stars from other players
Podium Top three
Theme choice Mostly random, but a Theme Prop lets a player pick
Theme voting Listed as removed May 9, 2026

A warning about conflicting guides. One fan site says dressing lasts two to three minutes, which conflicts with the 360 seconds reported elsewhere. It also says the winner has the highest total in one article and the best average in another, and we found no official source for either. It gives exact percentages for types of voters, but cites no data, so we do not repeat them. Runway order is disputed too, with one guide saying join order and another saying random.

Read the theme as a question

Each kind of theme asks for something different. BlueStacks groups them like this, and notes the game has no official categories. The advice column blends BlueStacks with our own wording.

Theme type Examples What voters want to see
Fashion style Dark Academia, Cottagecore, Y2K The style's signature pieces
Pop culture Met Gala, Barbie, K-Pop An instantly known reference
Pairs of ideas Fire vs Ice, Sun & Moon Both ideas, clearly split, or one clearly chosen
Occasions Wedding Day, Pool Party, Prom Night Clothes that fit the place
History Victorian, Rococo, 1920s The right shape, over the right fabric
Fantasy Mermaid/Siren, Angel, Steampunk Non-human or magical details
Color and pattern Monochrome, Pastel, Stripes Galore Strict discipline
Jobs Doctor, Ballerina, Secret Agent A uniform or tool people recognize

Treat color themes as strict. Monochrome means dressing in one color.

Read the exact words. "Colorful" is loose, while "Monochrome" is close to a rule. Check the banner at the top of the screen, where the theme stays for the whole round.

Pick how clever to be

You can read most themes anywhere from literal to abstract. These examples are our own:

Approach Example for "Ocean" Likely result
Literal A plain blue gown Safe, can blend in
Clever A pearl diver with shells and a net Often the sweet spot
Twist A shipwreck ghost in torn sails Can win big or confuse people
Abstract A light-to-dark gradient for depth Risky if voters cannot read it

A good test is whether a stranger could name the theme from your look alone. If they would need a caption, simplify. Save big twists for lobbies where you have already seen people reward them.

Use each station with a purpose

BlueStacks describes useful tools that many players skip.

  • Skin tone. Presets include blue, green, pink, yellow and deep red, plus a Color Wheel. A changed skin tone quickly reads as otherworldly on themes like From Another Planet or Mermaid/Siren. For everyday themes, stay natural so people look at your clothes.
  • Makeup. The right panel has complete looks, which is faster when time is short. Match intensity to the theme. Dark lips and dramatic eyes help on Gothic, Villain or Haunted.
  • Hair. Filter by Updo, Curly, Braids and others to avoid scrolling. A short bob suggests the 1920s, and tall styles suit Rococo.
  • Nails. You can type an exact HEX code. Reuse the same code across items and nails for a perfect match on color themes. Long sharp nails suit Villain, and short neat ones suit job themes.
  • Accessory Adjustment. It lets you move, rotate and resize accessories and hair, and it opens after 30 rounds outside Style Showdown. It is reported to be off in Casual servers, so move to Regular once you can.

A six-minute plan

This timing is our suggestion, not a tested formula.

Time left Do this
6:00 to 5:30 Read the theme, decide on one idea and two or three colors
5:30 to 3:30 Main piece, shoes, then the one hero piece or prop
3:30 to 2:00 Skin, hair, makeup and nails in Lana's Salon
2:00 to 1:00 Accessories, staying well under the cap
1:00 to 0:00 Look at the whole outfit, remove one thing, compare with others

Do not leave the salon for last. Items you own from codes or the shop sit in the booths' Closet rather than on the racks, so allow time for that trip as well. In normal rounds, saved outfits reportedly do not work, as the wiki says they are for Freeplay only.

Runway habits

The runway is your only chance to show the look. BlueStacks advises choosing a few poses that suit the mood, and holding them long enough to be seen, since constant switching makes the outfit harder to read. Match the pose to the theme: strong and still for Villain, soft and relaxed for Cottagecore. The cheapest pose pack on the wiki is reported at 1,800 Cash, though free poses work fine.

Mistakes that lose stars

  • Unrelated items. BlueStacks' example is fantasy wings on an everyday theme. If a piece has no reason to be there, cut it.
  • Too many colors. Two or three, repeated across the outfit, read better than a rainbow unless the theme asks for one.
  • Default look. Default hair or missing shoes can look like you did not try, even with great clothes.
  • Clashing era. A Victorian gown with modern sneakers confuses the eye.
  • Paying to fix it. Passes add options, but no source shows they are needed. Items do not replace reading the theme.

How to improve between rounds

After each round, look at the top three and ask what you could read from far away. Was it a color, a silhouette, a prop? Compare that with your own look. One round tells you little, since lobbies differ a lot.

Vote fairly too. Penalties for unfair voting are reported only in Master servers, which open at 10,000 stars, so a low score elsewhere could come from harsh voters and not your outfit. Do not change your approach because of one bad score.

If you want to try ideas without pressure, Freeplay has no theme, timer or voting. Style Showdown is good timed practice, since its dress-up period is reported at 3 minutes or less.
