Fish It Beginner Guide for Your First Rods and Islands

The fastest start in Fish It is simple: sell your first catches, claim the free Toy Rod, buy a cheap boat, then sail to Kohana Island for the free Lava Rod. After that, Kohana Volcano is a good place to farm coins for better gear.
Prices below come mostly from one fan wiki updated on October 21, 2026. Fish It updates often, so check the shop before you save up for something.
How fishing works
- Equip your rod from the bar at the bottom of the screen.
- Walk to the edge of a pier or any water.
- Hold the left mouse button to charge your cast. Let go when the meter is in a strong zone.
- When a fish bites, click as fast as you can to reel it in.
The Roblox game page gives the same basic steps. A better cast helps your odds of a rarer fish, so do not rush it.
Every fishing spot has its own tab in the Fish Index. Catching a new species fills in that tab, and extras can be sold for coins. Quests from NPCs give coins and levels, so do the early ones.
Your first ten minutes
- Finish the opening quest on Fisherman Island, which teaches you to catch and sell.
- Sell your catch. Fish sitting in your inventory earn nothing.
- Like the game and join the Fish Atelier group to get the free Toy Rod. It beats the Starter Rod and costs no coins.
- Buy a boat at the pier as soon as you can pay for one.
- Sail north to Kohana Island, enter the volcano by the cave or mountain route near the village and waterfall, and talk to the Lava Fisherman for the free Lava Rod. Do not jump off the rim.
Early rods worth knowing
Coins are the shop currency. Weight is the heaviest fish a rod can land.
| Rod | Price | Luck | Max weight | Why get it |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Starter Rod | Free | 0% | 10 kg | Given when you join, replace it quickly |
| Toy Rod | Free | 30% | 18 kg | Like the game and join the group |
| Luck Rod | 250 | 50% | 15 kg | Cheapest paid Luck boost |
| Lava Rod | Free | 30% | 100 kg | Best free early step, from Kohana Volcano |
| Grass Rod | 1,500 | 55% | 250 kg | Cheap all-round upgrade |
| Damascus Rod | 3,000 | 80% | 400 kg | Highest Luck in the early shop group |
| Ice Rod | 5,000 | 60% | 750 kg | Takes bigger fish |
| Midnight Rod | 50,000 | 100% | 10,000 kg | First big savings goal |
| Steampunk Rod | 215,000 | 175% | 25,000 kg | Mid-game |
| Chrome Rod | 437,000 | 229% | 190,000 kg | Late mid-game |
The Lava Rod is free and handles much heavier fish than the Luck Rod, so do not stay with cheap Common rods for long.
Boats
You buy boats from the pier NPC.
| Boat | Price in coins | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Small Boat | 300 | Slow, seats three, enough to leave the starter island |
| Kayak | 1,100 | Faster than the Small Boat, one seat |
| Jet Ski | 7,500 | The wiki's early speed pick |
| Highfield Boat | 25,000 | Three seats, balanced |
| Speed Boat | 70,000 | Faster travel later on |
An older 2025 guide listed the small boat at around 7,000 coins. The newer wiki says 300. Check the pier shop to see the real price.
Where to fish as you grow
| Stage | Spot | How to reach it | Why go |
|---|---|---|---|
| Start | Fisherman Island | Spawn point | Shops, selling and first quests |
| Early | Tropical Grove | Boat west of Fisherman Island | Decent coins and Enchant Stones |
| Early to mid | Kohana Volcano | Boat north to Kohana Island, then cave route | Free Lava Rod and valuable fish such as Blueflame Ray and Magma Shark |
| Mid | Esoteric Depths | Elevator fee of about 400 coins | Steady coins, Enchant Stones and the Enchant Altar |
| Mid | Coral Reefs | Boat to the northwest marker | More fish to log and high-value catches |
| Late | Lost Isle | Boat to the far north, then diving gear | Deep-sea Secret fish in underwater rooms |
Diving gear costs about 75,000 coins at the Utility Store on Fisherman Island. Lost Isle pools need high Luck gear to be worth your time, so do not rush there on a cheap rod.
Sources do not fully agree on the best money spot. Volcano and Esoteric Depths come up most often for the early and middle game, and newer late-game zones exist too.
Bobbers, enchants and potions
- Bobbers are the game's bait. They raise Luck, and stronger ones add mutation or shiny chances. Most are sold by Seth on Fisherman Island. Buy one when your rod upgrade is done, because they make every cast better.
- Enchant Stones go on your rod at the altar in Esoteric Depths. Results are rolled, so a stone can give you a weak bonus. Save stones for a rod you plan to keep, not your first cheap ones.
- Potions run on a timer. Use them when you sit down for a long session, not right before you log off.
- Mutations make a fish worth more, with listed multipliers from 2.2x up to 6.5x.
Free boosts
Fish It has redeem codes that mostly give potions. Most sources say you must be level 10 to use them, so level up through quests first. The box is at the bottom of the shop.
Weather can also help. Anyone can buy a weather effect from the Weather Machine for the whole server, starting at 10,000 coins, and it lasts about 10 to 15 minutes. If someone else starts one, stay and fish.
Do you need Robux
No. The game's page sells passes for luck, double XP and selling anywhere, but rods such as Lava and shop rods up to Chrome can all be earned with play. Spend your first coins on a boat and a rod.
Common beginner mistakes
- Staying on Fisherman Island for too long. New water means new fish and more coins.
- Holding fish instead of selling them to buy gear.
- Buying an expensive Luck upgrade while your rod is too weak on weight to land big fish.
- Spending Enchant Stones on a rod you will drop soon.
What is new
The Roblox page currently advertises a Halloween expansion, Fishing Crews and a group fishing event. Check the page for the current update, because limited items and events come and go.
