Murder Mystery 2 Beginner Guide With Tips for Every Role

Every round gives you one of three random roles. As an Innocent, stay alive and collect coins. As the Sheriff, shoot only when you are sure. As the Murderer, blend in first and eliminate everyone. The best habit for every role is learning the map, so you always know your way out.
How a round works
Murder Mystery 2 is a Roblox hide-and-hunt game made by Nikilis. Your role is secret and changes each round. A round ends in one of three ways:
- The Murderer is shot, and the Innocents win.
- Everyone else is eliminated, and the Murderer wins.
- Time runs out, and the Innocents win.
That last point matters. Innocents do not have to be heroes. Staying alive until the timer ends is enough.
| Role | Weapon | Your goal |
|---|---|---|
| Innocent | None | Survive, expose the Murderer |
| Sheriff | Gun | Find and shoot the Murderer |
| Murderer | Knife | Eliminate everyone without being shot |
Playing as an Innocent
Plan your exit before you enter a room. Avoid rooms with one door and long narrow corridors. Most deaths happen when you get trapped.
Do not follow a fixed path when collecting coins. A predictable route makes you an easy target for a thrown knife. Change direction often.
Watch how people move. Run from anyone chasing others for no clear reason. Also keep an eye on players who ignore coins, because they may be waiting for a chance to attack.
Be careful in crowds. Staying near players who act normally is useful, but a big bunch of people is an easy target for the Murderer.
Read the chat, but do not trust it fully. Players share suspects there, and the Murderer can lie too.
Do not reuse hiding spots. Popular spots are the first places a Murderer checks.
What to do when the Sheriff dies
The gun drops where the Sheriff fell, and an Innocent can pick it up. This is your big chance to turn the round around, but do not sprint at it blindly.
- Find out where it dropped. Players often post the location in chat.
- Check whether the Murderer is nearby. Many Murderers wait next to the gun.
- If they are close, walk away and come back later, or use another player's distraction.
- If they are camping it, keep collecting coins and stay alive. If time runs out, the Innocents still win.
- If you get the gun, find a good position before you shoot. High ground or nearby cover gives you time to aim.
Playing as the Sheriff
Only fire when you are sure. Hitting an Innocent hurts your own team, so wait until you see an attack or a knife.
Choose where you stand. Pick a place with a good view, and do not stay there too long.
Decide whether to show your gun. Showing it tells Innocents you are on their side, but it also tells the Murderer who to hunt. Guides disagree here, so try both and see what suits you.
If the Murderer chases you, get space. Put obstacles between you, then move to a more open area where you can dodge thrown knives and still line up a shot.
Playing as the Murderer
Do not attack the first player you see. Act normally for the first few seconds, as if you were an Innocent collecting coins.
Pick on players who are alone. Attacking in a crowd lets everyone see you, and then you are the one being hunted.
Use both knife attacks. You can stab up close or throw the knife from range. Up close is the strength you have over the Sheriff, so try to close the distance or corner people in dead ends.
Get rid of the Sheriff when you can. After that, you can wait near the dropped gun, but remember the timer is still running. If it reaches zero, you lose.
Stay calm. Rushing every kill gets you exposed fast. Slow, quiet kills last longer.
Learn the maps
Maps change how safe each role is. TheGamer rates these as follows, though newer maps may have been added since:
| Easier to escape on | Easier to get trapped on |
|---|---|
| Bank 2 | Mansion 2 |
| Hotel | House 2 |
| Workplace | |
| Factory |
On any map, look for stairs, shortcuts and teleports. In a chase, use doors and walls to break line of sight and change speed or direction so the Murderer misses.
Coins and what to buy
Coins come from collecting them during rounds, and you spend them in the in-game shop on things like emotes, perks and weapon boxes. Gems are the premium currency, bought with Robux. You do not need them to enjoy the game.
Good first purchases, according to TheGamer:
- X-Ray Vision: lets you see through walls, on a cooldown. One of the best early buys.
- Speed Boost: a few seconds of faster movement for chasing or escaping.
- Invisibility: a short period unseen, useful for getting close as the Murderer.
- Sit emote: lets you sit in hiding spots behind furniture and boxes.
During seasonal events the map currency can change. In the Halloween Event 2026, listed as running until November 16, Candies replace coins on the map and pay for the event's Battle Pass. Check the event menu for current costs.
Trading and staying safe
Knives and other items can be traded with other players, and scams are common. Follow these rules:
- Never accept a promise to pay you "later" from someone you do not know.
- Find out what your item is worth before you trade it.
- Ignore anyone offering free Godly items. There are no confirmed working codes right now, as our MM2 codes guide explains.
- Do not use scripts or auto-farm tools, and do not buy items from outside sellers. Both can cost you your account or your items.
A simple first-day plan
- Play five rounds. When you are an Innocent, focus on surviving and collecting coins.
- Each round, find one new exit on the map.
- As Sheriff, try to wait for proof before your first shot.
- As Murderer, wait a few seconds before you attack anyone.
- Save your coins for one useful perk instead of many small items.
