Speed is what matters most in Steal An Egg. Claim the free 10,000 Speed first, steal the easiest eggs you can carry home safely, keep your garden full of earning pets, and spend your money on Speed upgrades.
Prices and numbers below come from guides and can change with updates, so trust the in-game value if it differs.
How the game works
- Run to a biome and grab an egg from its nest.
- Escape the guardian and get back to your base. You only keep the egg if you make it home.
- Place the egg and wait for it to hatch.
- Put the pet in your garden. It earns money every second.
- Spend that money on treadmill upgrades, trails and base upgrades.
- Use your higher Speed to reach the next biome, where the eggs are better.
Other players can also steal from you, so don't assume an egg is safe. Servers hold up to 7 players.
Your first 10 minutes
- Claim the free rewards. Like and favorite the game, then join the developer's Roblox community. Guides report this gives 10,000 Speed, which is enough to clear the first Speed requirement in the table below.
- Check the Index. It sits on the left side of the screen and tracks the pets you have found. New pets can unlock rewards you can claim, so open it often.
- Steal Forest eggs. The Forest needs no Speed and its guardian is a Chicken. Fast hatchers matter most at this point. The Chicken pet reportedly takes 10 seconds to grow and pays $1 per second.
- Fill your garden. Even cheap pets add up. A full garden of common pets earns more than a half-empty one where you are waiting on a rare.
- Get the treadmill. Two guides say the first garden upgrade costs $1,000 and unlocks it, while a third lists the base treadmill as free. Check your base and buy the upgrade if the treadmill is still locked.
How to raise your Speed
You gain Speed from three places.
- Hatching pets. Each hatch gives a Speed reward. Reports put a Chicken at +420 Speed, and rewards grow in later biomes. This is why cheap eggs are still useful after you reach a new biome.
- Treadmills. Walk on one to gain Speed. Better treadmills give more Speed per step.
- Trails. These look like cosmetics, but they multiply your Speed. Buy them as soon as you can afford them.
| Upgrade | Reported price | Effect |
|---|---|---|
| Grey Trail | $100 | 1.5x Speed |
| Green Trail | $5,000 | 2x Speed |
| Sci-Fi Treadmill | $15,000 | +5 Speed per step |
| Blue Trail | $75,000 | 2.5x Speed |
| Flame Treadmill | $250,000 | +12 Speed per step |
| Purple Trail | $1.5M | 3x Speed |
| Celebrity Treadmill | $5M | +30 Speed per step |
A good first order is the Grey Trail, the Green Trail, then the Sci-Fi Treadmill. Treadmills earn more the longer you use them, so step on one whenever you are waiting for eggs to hatch.
Biomes and when to move on
| Biome | Speed needed | Guardian | Best pet (base money per second) |
|---|---|---|---|
| Forest | None | Chicken | Brr Brr Patapim ($1.8K) |
| Lake | 900 | Swan | Leviathan ($220K) |
| Desert | 10K | Scorpion | Royal Sphinx ($280K) |
| Jungle | 40K | Tiger | King Snake ($3.5M) |
| Snow | 170K | Yeti | Ice Dragon ($65M) |
| Volcano | 700K | Cerberus | Lava Dragon ($100M) |
The table comes from one wiki-based guide, so treat it as a rough map. Reaching a biome's Speed number does not mean you can escape every egg in it. Use your last run as the test:
- You got home easily: repeat that egg and build income.
- You were caught near your base: train a little more or buy a better trail.
- You were caught halfway: go back to an easier egg and upgrade.
- You slowed down badly after grabbing the egg: pick a smaller egg, or train first.
Eggs, weight and resets
- Size matters. Bigger eggs are worth more, but they are heavier and slow you down. The Leviathan is reported at 5,000 kg, so it is a poor choice before you have plenty of Speed.
- Color doesn't change income. Mutations are rolled when the pet hatches, so don't choose an egg by its color.
- Nests reset. Guides report a reset every 5 minutes. If someone takes the egg you wanted, wait for the reset rather than leaving.
- Plan your way out. Look at your route home before you grab anything.
- Bear traps slow chasers. You get few of them early, so save them for eggs worth protecting. One guide says you can only place them while holding an egg, and that other players can trap you for 7 seconds.
Getting more from your pets
Compare pets by money per second, not by rarity. Replace your lowest earners when your garden is full, and open the Pets menu and use Equip Best after you hatch something good.
Size and mutation also change what a pet earns, so two copies of the same pet can pay very differently. Check both before you remove one.
| Mutation | Income |
|---|---|
| Silver | 1.2x |
| Golden | 2.5x |
| Rainbow | 3.5x |
The Fuse Machine turns three copies of the same pet into one better pet. Duplicates are the natural fuel for it. Check your total income first, because fusing pets that are earning for you can leave you worse off for a while.
Mounts and the Halloween Dimension
Mounts arrived in an update on October 10-11, 2026. One guide says a Shooting Star turns a pet into a mount, that the change is permanent, and that the nightly Shooting Star event gives each eligible player a star. Don't use a star on a pet you will soon replace.
The Halloween Dimension is reached through a portal beside the Trails Shop near spawn. It has three areas (Graveyard, Haunted Swamp and Abandoned Manor) and its own currency, Candy Corn. One guide reports 100 Candy Corn per stolen egg and 2,250 for the Halloween Dimension Egg. We did not find a confirmed end date, so check the game page before you plan around it.
Common mistakes
- Skipping the free 10,000 Speed.
- Running for far-off eggs before your Speed is ready.
- Treating trails as decoration.
- Grabbing the biggest egg and getting caught because of its weight.
- Leaving weak pets in your garden too long.
- Forgetting to claim Index rewards.
- Buying with Robux out of impatience. Guides say you can progress without spending, although it takes time.
Stick to the game itself for progress. Avoid scripts, exploits and sites that offer to sell pets, since they can get your account banned or stolen.
