How to Redeem Roblox Codes and Why They Fail

Roblox has two main kinds of code, and they go in different places. A promo code goes on roblox.com/redeem. An in-game code goes inside the one game it was made for. Most failed codes are expired, mistyped, or entered in the wrong place.
Promo codes and in-game codes compared
| Promo code | In-game code | |
|---|---|---|
| Comes from | Roblox | The game's developers |
| Where to enter it | roblox.com/redeem | A menu inside that game |
| Typical reward | Free avatar item | Depends on the game, such as coins, spins or boosts |
| Works in | Your whole account | Only that game |
Gift cards and toy codes also use the redeem page. They are paid products, not free promotions, so they have their own rules.
How to redeem a promo code
- Open a web browser and go to roblox.com/redeem.
- Log in to the account you want the item on.
- Enter the code and click Redeem.
- Look for a confirmation message.
Use a browser on a phone or console too. Roblox says Samsung users can also redeem in the mobile app.
How to redeem an in-game code
There is no single menu for these, because each developer builds their own. The basic steps are the same:
- Start the game and join a server.
- Find the code entry point. Look for a button called Codes, or check the menu, shop and settings.
- Enter the code exactly as written.
- Press the redeem or claim button.
Here are two real examples of how different games can be:
- Wanted: tap the basket-shaped menu button in the top-right corner, open the Codes tab, enter the code, then claim the reward.
- Fix My Phone: drag up from the bottom-right corner of the phone screen to open your in-game phone, open the CODES app, enter the code, then click REDEEM.
If you cannot find the entry point, check the game's Roblox page or its official community for instructions. Some games also have extra requirements. Destructoid's guide to Above The Rim, for example, says you need to join the developer's group first.
Why codes fail
| What is happening | Likely cause | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| The code is rejected as invalid | It expired or has a typo | Copy and paste it, then check where you found it and how old that page is |
| It fails only for you | Wrong capital letters or a stray space | Remove spaces and match the capitals exactly |
| You used a game code on the redeem page | Wrong place | Enter it inside the game it belongs to |
| You used a promo code in a game | Wrong place | Enter it at roblox.com/redeem |
| It says the code was already used | You or another of your accounts already redeemed it | Check your inventory and your other accounts |
| You cannot find a Codes button | The button may not have loaded, or the game may have moved it | Rejoin or restart the game |
| The code worked for a friend, not you | You may have claimed it already, or your server may be out of date | Rejoin the game, then check whether you already claimed it |
Expired codes
Codes made for events or milestones run for a limited time, and Roblox says you cannot redeem a promo code once its time frame has passed. Old lists keep showing dead codes, so a code being online does not prove it works. Even current lists disagree. In October 2026, some pages showed FREENGNBOI as working while others showed it as expired.
Capital letters and spaces
Dexerto warns that a single extra space makes an in-game code invalid, and that codes depend on letter case. Some pages say Roblox promo codes are not case sensitive, but sources disagree. Matching the code exactly avoids the problem either way.
Also watch for characters that look alike. Roblox's help pages point out mix-ups like the letter O and the number 0, or the letter I and the number 1.
Already redeemed or already owned
Many codes work once per account. Roblox says a virtual item code can only be redeemed once on an account, and advises checking your inventory for promo items, since you may already have the reward.
Problems with paid codes
Gift cards and toy codes can fail for different reasons, according to Roblox's help pages:
- Wrong account: Robux are added to whichever account was logged in when the code was redeemed. If a card says it is already redeemed, check your other accounts first.
- Wrong country: a gift card that adds Roblox Credit only works when your country matches the card's currency. Digital codes that redeem directly to Robux are a separate case and generally work worldwide.
- Robux-only codes: some codes, such as Amazon digital codes, work only for Robux rather than other uses of credit.
- New card shows as used: if the code was sealed when you bought it, contact Roblox Support with your receipt and the code. A wrong-account problem also needs the card details and receipt.
Codes to avoid
A real code never needs anything other than typing it into roblox.com/redeem or a game's own menu. Close the page if a "code" site asks for any of these:
- Your Roblox password or a login on another website
- A survey, an app install or a file download
- Pasting something into your browser
- A code that promises Robux for free
Roblox says it does not offer free Robux, and that offers of free codes or items are often ways to collect personal information.
Where to find working codes
- Promo codes: Roblox's help pages name the Roblox blog, your Notifications tab and site banners as the places real promotions appear.
- In-game codes: check the game's Roblox page and the developer's official community links, such as its Discord, X account or Roblox group.
Developers can end a code at any time, so use new codes soon after they appear.
