How to Spot Free Robux Scams and Keep Your Account Safe

October 30, 2026 · 6 min read

On this page

Any offer of free Robux is a scam. Roblox says it does not offer free Robux, and that offers of free Premium, tricks, codes or valuable items are often ways to collect your personal information. Generators do not work. Their goal is your account, your Robux and your items.

To get Robux safely, buy them from Roblox or use an official gift card.

Warning signs

Stop and leave if you see any of these.

What you see Why it is a scam sign
"Free Robux" site, generator or game Roblox has no free Robux offers
Someone says they are Roblox staff Real staff have the Roblox Admin badge in their badge list
A request for your password Roblox only asks for it on its official login page
A request for your 2-step code or cookies Roblox staff never ask for these
A request to send Robux to "verify" your account Roblox says it never asks for this
A game asks you to log in Leave and report it
A link from another player that leaves Roblox It may be spam or phishing
A deal outside the official Trade or Sell features Roblox cannot help you recover items

Common scams

Free Robux sites and generators. These ask for your username and password, or send you to surveys, downloads or bad links. Nothing arrives, and your details may now be in a scammer's hands.

Fake giveaways. A post or message says you won something and sends you to a login page. It may look exactly like Roblox. Roblox warns against entering your details on other sites, especially for giveaways.

Fake staff. Someone claims to be an admin and says your account is in trouble or that you won a prize. Check their profile for the Roblox Admin badge, and never hand over login details no matter who asks. A Roblox Developer Relations post also says staff will never ask you to use a third-party app or browser extension.

Fake games. A community post on Roblox's Developer Forum describes copies of popular games where scammers pose as the developers and promise to multiply your Robux if you donate. They then delete the passes, so a refund is unlikely. Nothing on Roblox will multiply your Robux for you.

Off-platform deals. A stranger offers a trade or sale outside Roblox, sometimes with a "middleman" who says they will hold the items. The Developer Forum post describes fake middlemen who take items from both sides. If you deal outside Trade or Sell, Roblox says it cannot help you recover anything.

Pasting code in your browser. Someone tells you to press F12 and paste text into the console to unlock a reward. The same community post warns this can steal your session cookies, which can let someone into your account without your password or 2-step code. Never paste code you were sent.

Disguised files. A file named something like silly-cat.png.exe looks like a picture but is really a program. Do not open files from strangers. If someone sends you a "tool" or "render", delete it.

Lock down your account

These steps make your account much harder to steal.

  1. Turn on 2-Step Verification. Go to Settings > Security. Roblox recommends the authenticator app option over email.
  2. Add a passkey. Go to Account Settings > Account info > Login Methods > Add Passkey. Roblox says passkeys and 2-step checks help prevent account takeovers.
  3. Use a long, unique password. Roblox's security post suggests at least 15 to 25 characters with a mix of letters, numbers and symbols. Never reuse a password from another site. A password manager can keep track of it for you.
  4. Check the address bar. Before you log in, make sure the site really is roblox.com. Scam addresses can look close, such as roblox.com.tz.
  5. Log out on shared computers. This matters most at school, at a library or at a friend's house.
  6. Remove things you do not trust. Delete strange browser extensions and any programs you installed for Robux or free items. Roblox says bad extensions and malware can put your account at risk again.

Accounts that want extra protection can look at Roblox's Enhanced Protection, which requires a passkey or hardware security key for sign-in.

For parents

Roblox's parental controls can help limit the damage from a bad decision:

  • Link accounts so you can manage most settings remotely.
  • Set a monthly spending limit. It covers spending on Robux and experience subscriptions, but it does not affect gift card redemptions.
  • Keep spending alerts on. High-spend alerts are on by default and trigger at $100, $250 and $500 in a month.
  • Create a Parent PIN to approve or deny your child's requests more quickly.

Roblox also advises caution about gifts or gift cards offered to your child by people they do not know.

What to do if you fell for a scam

Act fast. Roblox's hacked account page sets out this order:

  1. Clean your device first. Run a full virus scan and remove bad extensions and programs. If you skip this, the account can be taken again.
  2. Reset your password. Use a new one you have never used before. If you reused the old password elsewhere, change it on those sites too.
  3. Turn on 2-Step Verification in Settings > Security.
  4. Contact Roblox Support if you cannot get in. Roblox may ask you to prove ownership using the first email added to the account or the billing email from your first payment. Do this within 30 days of the account being taken.
  5. Tell a parent or guardian if you are young, especially if a payment method or an email account may be involved.

Roblox does not promise it can get your account back, and it says lost items can only be recovered in very limited cases. This is why prevention matters more than recovery.

How to report a scam

Roblox says reporting is the best way to let it know about rule-breakers. Follow the official steps:

  • A user: open their profile, click the three dots next to the chat button, choose Report, pick a subject, describe what happened, and click Submit. Choose Block from the same menu to stop them contacting you.
  • Inside a game: click the menu button in the upper-left corner, select the shield icon labeled Report, choose Experience or Person, fill in the details, and click Submit.
  • A catalog item: click the three dots in the item's information box, select Report item, and submit the form.

Report the scam even if you did not fall for it. It may stop the next person from being caught.
